Glazing Selection

Choosing the right glass for your home is about far more than just filling an opening it plays a critical role in shaping how your home looks, feels, and performs every day.

From a design perspective, glazing influences natural light, comfort, and connection to the outdoors. But beyond aesthetics, the type of glass you select can significantly impact energy efficiency, noise control, and overall livability.

Standard Glazing

For budget-conscious projects, standard glazing offers a practical and cost-effective solution, providing durability and clarity for everyday applications.

Standard glass is a practical choice for areas of the home where thermal performance, security, or noise reduction aren’t key concerns.

It offers exceptional clarity and high transparency, allowing plenty of natural light to flow through your space. This makes it ideal for creating bright, open interiors while keeping costs down on more budget-conscious projects.

Energy Efficient Glazing

For homeowners looking to improve comfort and energy efficiency, Low E glass is the right choice, helping regulate indoor temperatures while still allowing in natural light.

Low E glass features a virtually invisible coating that reflects heat while still allowing plenty of natural light into your home. This helps keep interiors cooler in summer and warmer in winter, improving comfort year-round.

It’s also a cost-effective way to boost thermal performance, often delivering significant efficiency gains without the need to upgrade to more expensive thermally broken frames.

When combined with laminated glass, Low E can also help block harmful UV rays, reducing fading to furniture, carpets, and curtains over time.

Low E glass makes it easier to incorporate larger windows and still meet energy rating requirements.

Acoustic  Glazing

In busy environments, unwanted noise can impact comfort at home. Reducing sound from traffic, trains, and aircraft helps improve sleep, lower stress, and enhance focus.

Where both energy efficiency and noise reduction are required, double glazing offers an effective solution. By incorporating two panes of glass with an air or gas-filled cavity, sound transmission is significantly reduced. Increasing the space between the panes can further enhance acoustic performance. This is often measured using a Sound Transmission Class (STC) rating—expressed in decibels—where higher values indicate greater sound reduction.

Glass thickness plays an important role in acoustic performance. As sound waves travel through thicker glass, they lose energy, making this option particularly effective at reducing lower-frequency noise such as traffic and surrounding activity.

Acoustic laminate options are also available, featuring advanced interlayers that deliver superior noise reduction—comparable to much thicker glass—while also providing added benefits such as improved security and UV protection.

Toned

Toned glass is designed to reduce heat and glare from the sun, making it a smart choice for Australian homes, particularly during the hotter months.

Grey toned particularly helps to keep your home cooler and reducing the need for air conditioning — which can lower your overall energy use.

Toned glass is available in a range of colours, including grey, bronze, and green, with grey typically offering the best overall performance.

When selecting a tint, it’s important to consider your homes over energy rating as changing the tone of glass can impact the overall star rating.
